What is Kamphora?

Kamphora came from the word “camphor” (pronounce as kam'for), derived from the French word camphre, from Medieval Latin camfora. Middle East people, mainly the Arabs called it kafur and Malay pronounce it Kapur Barus (Barus was formerly a coastal port on the western coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra where foreign traders would visit to buy camphor).

Camphor is a waxy, white or transparent solid with a strong, aromatic odor found in a wood specie of the camphor laurel (Cinnamomum camphora), a large evergreen tree found in Asia (particularly in Borneo and Taiwan). It has been used for many centuries as a culinary spice (an ingredient in cooking mainly in India), a component of incense and for medicinal use. It was believed the beauty and healing properties had been used by the Malays and was passed down from generations to generations through the art of Malay traditional massages.
